I went to new gym (MSC Performance Birmingham) on Sunday as they had an open day and they has an Olympic class from 2pm-3pm. My initial reason for going was to see if I could get some tips on clean & jerk (I think I've said before I'm self taught). Anyway the class ended up being on the snatch which I'd never really tried. It focused on the receiving position via progression from overhead squat to snatch balance.

Was interesting and they said they were doing an unlimited offer till the end of the month for £15 so took them up on it.

Went to the Olympic lifting class today. Started with overhead snatch, then snatch balance, then a 3 point snatch (where you pause at specific positions) and finally onto the full snatch. By the end I had snatched 40kg a few times. Feel like I could have gone higher but focused on technique and stopped as speed was starting to go. Not bad for the first time on a lift, and sure it would have taken me way longer on my own. The receiving position exercises really helped.

Oh, and I may have recruited a thrower for my club, an Olympic lifter that's interested in doing shot, discus and hammer so a good day all round.

Now if Birmingham Uni would hurry up and rebuild the track, field athletes might actually have somewhere to train!

Looks like a great gym, SPR. Lots of great testimonials.

Day pass looks interesting - might grab a friend and pop down when we want a more polished gym than ours!

Been a bit injured of late here - hopeful on the recovery road; it's been all upper body for the last 3 weeks - I need to deadlift soon!

Would be perfect for you I think Duracell. As I only train 2 days a week, full prices feel expensive for but the gym is great.

Hope the injury clears up soon.

The gym and weightlifting classes sound great SPR.

Hope your injury clears up soon Duracell, I know just how frustrating it is.

I've been acupunctured today, taped up, pulled every which way you can think of, and generally abused by a new (to me) practitioner...
Good news is no real damage - just soft tissue, but has been exacerbated by cough / cold, and lack of breathing!
It was great actually to be treated by someone who lifts - really understood how I'd done it, and gave me some practical tips.

Have had to pull out of my debut comp, after all that deliberating!

Back is feeling loads better, and have been training - but nowhere near hard or heavy enough to compete without feeling under-prepared.
Decision made - again! - and feel better for having made it.
Hope everyone is feeling strong 🏋🏼

Sorry to hear that Duracell but I'm sure you've made the right decision. It's always a pain to have to pull out of an event you've been looking forward to. Better luck next time.

That's a shame Duracell. But a sensible decision, I'm sure. Hopefully they'll be another comp soon.
