Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Today's rainy morning run reminded me I should start the hunt for a new summer running jacket:

Lightweight
Breathable
Packable (ie folds into its own pocket or suchlike)
Waterproof (or at least showerproof).

Any recommendations please?

I have an old Ronhill jacket that meets some of those criteria but sadly is about as breathable as a bin-liner, it gets so wet on the inside I can't tell whether or not it's rainproof on the outside!

Thanks...

Not sure it's more than you need and possibly expensive, but I'd suggest to tick all those boxes, an inov-8 stormshell.

I've been wearing a Marmot Precip for several years. Not the most breathabke but durable, and great value

Montane featherlite or marathon jacket. Super thin, vented and scrunches down into a small bag (apple-sized). Very windproof, handles light showers.

I have the Inov8 mentioned above. And I would definitely recommend. It may be a bit delicate for heavy backpacking, but great for general running and ultras. Will pass most (all?) kit checks AFAIK. But a bit pricey (at full price).

Just revisiting your op Fitz I think main thing is what do you want your new jacket to do, or more to the point what are going to do in it? An hour round the block on local roads, is different to three hours on the local moor, is different to all day out in the hills with a bag on your back

I have a cracking Kalenji (aka Decathlon) one that ticks all those boxes (I'd describe it as showerproof rather than waterproof). Got it a couple of years ago, and IIRC, it was only about a tenner. Sadly, can't find it on their website at the moment so probably not much help...

Thanks all.

Derby Tup to answer your very reasonable question - Urban / low country runner, occasional marathoner so could be out for 2-3 hours if I ever get my mojo back. I don't need Wilderness-level protection, just something that will stay dry on the inside (keeps rain out, lets sweat out) during a rainy summer bimble.

Having said that, I don't mind a good spend for good quality, so would consider over-speccing for my needs...

THe Inov8 Stormshell mentioned above is reduced from £160 to £100 on the Inov8 site at the moment, in a choice of 4 colours
