All that I want to do is to track distance and time when running. Nothing more, nothing less.
The reason is that I run a lot on tidal sands, which don't feature on Mapometer etc.
Is there a simple device which would allow me to do that?
I don't take my phone on runs.
And I don't want to link any device to a phone app.

Get one of those little wheels you roll along a map. Great fun, until you turn the wheel wrongly measuring an out and back run and end up with zero miles

Super helpful advice lol. Thanks.
But seriously, there must be a simply gizmo out there that just measures distance, without user needing an IT degree.
On streets, I just 'map' on Mapometer.
But tidal sands don't feature.

You’ll need something with GPS, unless you’re willing to rely on stride length, which can be inaccurate. Simplest one I recall is probably the Garmin 45. But I haven’t looked for a while.
FYI, if you just want simplicity for clarity’s sake when you run, a lot of watches these days let you customise screens eg on most runs, I use a screen that just shows me heart rate.

Not a slick ‘device’ solution, but because I’ve been running a couple of territories for many years, I plot routes manually on fetch in order to have a selection of known distances to run; or I sometimes plot the route afterwards if I’ve done a new variation.
Toggling between “on foot” and “off” on the fetch route planning tool allows one to include intertidal areas and other terrain not covered by mapped paths/trails.
For time I may catch a glance of the kitchen clock before/after the run or I just guess. If you’re running on beaches I guess time may be of less importance?
As I say, not what you’re looking for ideally, but a practical means of getting your ‘off-piste’ stuff logged😁

Cheap, second-hand Garmin? As Mr Fetch says, just switch off all the other fields.
There really is no need to connect them to your phone and use the apps unless you want the runs beautifully presented on here!

I get what you're saying. My Suunto 5 is great for that. Not a touch screen, initial set up got rid of it telling me about texts etc. 4 button presses and you are running.
It will tell you how long/far when you press the button a 5th time.
Other wise you'd be just as well using fetch to create a route, if you're up and down the coast pick points on the map and go between them.

As said, you either need GPS for distance, or plot manually on (eg) OS or Fetch to get the distance. Or a pedometer that translates steps to distance (but you have to calibrate it and allow for an average pace length)
And/or a cheap watch - eg Casio for £5 to £10 with a stopwatch for time. Some pedometers will do stopwatch as well..
Although a second hand or refurb garmin is probably easier, quicker and more accurate?
