Strange - was staying over with my eldest son for two nights who cooked two HUGE evening meals while I was there. It seemed rude to refuse to eat what he'd prepared and having got home and weighed myself, rather than the expected weight gain, I've lost. Nope - I don't understand either! :)

Sometimes I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, it's true: after a disappointing attempt at a brick yesterday I'm realised that attempting to lose weight via significant calorie reduction while also training for a half iron tri in less than five weeks is actually a recipe for disaster.

So I had a whole calzone, a beer, and a very large glass of wine last night and then I felt much better :D

spot on Rae - it's really really hard to fuel well and create an overall deficit.
Some form of carb/calorie cycling across the week seems to be the way to do it, but I struggle.

(Eat well, Rae :-) ) In theory, training for an endurance event might lend itself to fat loss, as the energy balance will be tipped to fat utilisation, but unless you are extremely fat adapted and probably also going very slowly, you'll run into trouble as there will still be some carbs needed in the mix. And significant calorie reduction, especially as it's often done by cutting out those horrible, nasty carbs, has a good chance of resulting in major glycogen depletion.

I must say that I hadn't been particularly focusing on cutting down carbs or anything, and I do usually go pretty darn slowly

I was still consuming a reasonable gross amount of calories, just not properly accounting for the amount burnt with training and leaving myself with a net most days of 1000 or less when I was aiming for 1200.

Which is clearly not enough for me to avoid feeling drained and rubbish. Like I said - not the sharpest tool in the shed.
