Re Pixie & Hanneke's posts on the previous page about extra notches on belts ..

Our cleaner has lost weight recently (not for a good reason - down to the stress of separating and having to move out in a rush) and yesterday, she was having to continually hitch her jeans up as in her hurry to get out, she forgot to take a belt with her. I gave her one of my old belts that is rather small for my current shape ;) .. I have plenty of others that are large enough.

haha
I don't use a belt!

So my friend from work wants to join either WW or SW.

She is a yoyo dieter and recently lost 30Kg .... that'll be the 30Kg she gained from WFH (we still are WFH) and the 30Kg she had lost before.

I haven't said anything but the way she has lost this weight (since April) has been horrendous and if she follows a plan she will probably gain again.

To lose the weight ....
she did 3 weeks on .... baby food! Yes jars of baby food - 4 a day which she insisted was very healthy.
Since then she chews each mouthful 30 times then waits 15s min before taking another and a max of 20 mouthfuls per meal.

(shakes head and cries)

I'm happy to join up with her and support her (WW would be my preference) as I do need to lose 3st + (that's her goal to lose another 3st +) but I do worry about her.

Has anyone and recent experience with WW or SW?

No recent experience, I didn’t get on with either of them when I tried, but that was in th ‘90s

- but either would be better than what she’s doing now. Maybe WW is more logical than SW, which does open up possibilities for bingeing on some foods
There probably will be an initial gain - water/glcogen etc, if you can prepare her for that at least.

Your level of exercise will probably confuse the leader ;)

Lower mileage this month, having some time just maintaining, still logging and trying to make sensible/healthy choices most of the time.
THink I’ll continue like this whilst I ramp the mileage up again and then look at a concerted “cut” period for a couple of months.

This is my concern RH! She's very all or nothing but seems determined now - no way I could have done her food plan for a week let alone 4 months!

Currently I'm bimbling along and amazed at how I got up and trained with husbands shifts
I NEED to lose the weight to make Lakesman a goer as the bike is undulating so less weight will help and it's a shorter cut off than Outlaw!

I recommend a "belt of reckoning"! I put an extea hole in it at my friend's on saturday. I have just done my morning ablutions and I am on the extra hole 😱😱😱 great motivation to stay off the snacks and only eat proper food 3x a day!

Sorry Pixie, but if your friend is resorting to eating baby food rather than adjusting her usual diet, that's just weird! I'd say there's a problem with not being aware of calories in the foods she usually eats - or a lack of portion control. I don't have experience of WW or SW so can't comment on which might be better.

Hanneke - as well as trying to get back to doing the exercising and daily walks I was doing, sit-ups are something I should add to my exercises. I have a folder full of exercises culled from various magazines - I know I have a page from Men's Health with the '(allegedly) 'perfect' sit-up which I'll have to find.

I think she was trying to "not have to think" and read about this extreme rapid results diet and thought YES!
