I looked at walking poles for Nordic walking. They are rather expensive!

I am still pondering over measuring gardening somehow. I think steps are the way forwards...
I once put my cycling garmin in a jersey pocket and cut the grass. I have a half acre garden that is about 125 metres long and 50-30 metres wide, tapering. I did over 2 kms by the time I finished, pushing a heavy, not self propelled, mower... That has to count for something!

my garmin does clever stuff so it knows if you are walking and also notes if you are working/walking intensely even if not recording it as an activity so gives me exercise calories.
Ialso have a "cardio" exercise option
sounds like you NEED to treat yourself to a new garmin!

WP: A journey of a 1000 steps as they say... My BMI was 29.6 on Jan 1 when I started this round.

Hanneke: I think mowing is going to cost more calories than just regular steps. Surely it's more effort? My garmin sometimes awards me bonus calories if I walk fast or uphill without starting a log of the walk. Presumably it's based on heart rate.

I'm another one who likes the data, no idea half the time what it means but its good to have it. I weigh far too often, I'm trying to only log weight monthly in an attempt to stop over thinking it.

I listened to an audiobook a couple of years ago, body positive power, the author had an eating disorder, was in rehab for the xx time when she finally got the shake she needed to recover. It was one of those books that hit the mark. I was in a bad place with me, how I felt, how I looked, I would cut food as I wasn't losing but it was a vicious circle.

I have tried hard since then and for the first time in my life I feel happy with me, I will always try to lose a bit more, wish I was thinner, lighter, better shaped but I'm also at ease with myself. I fear it will go in a flash if I lose focus. Hence the plotting and planning and still weighing like a mad thing. But it is progress and I'll take that.

AZX you will need to do weekly photo's till at goal?

Hanneke: I have just treated myself to a set of Poles and will arrive tomorrow in time for a saturday hike;-) I had Gift vouchers to use.I am hoping in time my ruptured Achilles may allow short distances running with them. But will walk first.

You could get a pedometer omoron is a good make if you want less tech for steps?

EP... I may have to... Just a basic one that does steps will do... As long as it also does the time, as I currently have no watch for gardening. I can then justify it as a business expense: watch to time my hours...
