Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I don't do breakfast and I can run a couple of hours or so okay without. Anything longer and I will get up a bit earlier and munch on toast.

It's taken years of practise, but I can run without eating or drinking in the morning. To be honest it is dehydration that gets me before calorie intake.

- and there's the thing with cutting calories to get a deficit.

I can do that, I did for ages when I ran before work.
But after a few days trying to cut down a bit, the reserves in the morning are low.
A couple of times recently I've really noticed a lack of fuel after an hour or so. I assume this is because, for years, I've defaulted to having fewer carbs in the evening - it was the easiest thing for me to cut down. I'm happiest with a big plate of veg and protein. I'm trying to add more pasta and potatoes to dinner/tea/supper to see if that helps.

Mmm I have a similar situation to Rosehip but not the same.

I started running on empty tum and can manage 10 miles but always have emergency nakd bar in case.As past few years I get dizzy spells and feeling so empty I have to eat(this happens when I used to have food before a run) and I mean I really have to eat usually 200-300 calories and slowly I come around.

I am also reducing carbs but through the day and have a small amount carbs with dinner and so far all is fine.

Ah, that’s a point WP, thank you! I rarely go out before 9 these days, before work/breakfast would have been 7ish...

I normally run in the morning even before doing this - glass of water, coffee maybe a fruit juice at most. Depends how far and how quick I want to be getting going. Coffee has 30-45 min danger window for me when I want to go the loo!

On a long run maybe take gels. Eating too much needs to wait before running for me.
