Minardi, I have always paid small fortunes for top of the range waterproofs. It is something you do not want to skimp on as, on the fells, where I used to hang out all the time, it can be a matter of life and death to have a dry, windproof and waterproof layer. I have several, for cycling, running and walking, as they all need different features. They tend to last a hell of a long time! I do get mine muddy: mountainbiking, fell running. I would simply shower them down, then dry properly. Most waterproofs "re-activate" on washing and drying too, but I only wash when the breathable watwrproof membrane is clogged, i.e. after quite a few rinsing downs of excessive mud.
Different membranes need different care. It pays to read the instructions and use what they suggest i.e. nickwax or whatever. My cycling one was seriously expensive but is non crinkle, folds up and works as a lightweight softshell/windproof layer as well. Yours looks similar.
As I said before: wear it, enjoy it, treat it well and you should get years of joy out of it.

My mum was all about keeping things for best. When she died I had to take so many beautiful, expensive and barely worn clothes to the charity shop. The most heartbreaking thing about that wasn’t the wasted expense but the fact that she never allowed herself the pleasure of enjoying them. I’d inherited that gene from her but I made a conscious decision to change. Wear the jacket, Minardi.

I started the Saving for Best -DON'T thread for that very reason. Some (older) people have whole unused rooms. Not me obvs. I've only got two rooms!

Must look out that thread. I hear so many people keep things for best but when is best? Now!

Not in quite the same vain but I had a shower gel and body lotion I adored and the company stopped making it. I then didn’t want to use it as I couldn’t get it again. Recently clearing out a cupboard I found the body lotion I was very excited only to find it has lost its smell and had turned to a watery mess. What a waste.

It IS in the same vein, GG! Similar anyway - I once stockpiled summer sandals from the sales... only to find the rubber soles perished.

I've got an OMM Kamleika jacket that cost a fortune (even in the sale!), but I love it. Then picked up an OMM Kamleika smock on Vinted for £20 all in and in perfect condition 🙂 Do love Vinted 😉

Must sell some stuff on Vinted, particularly my gorgeous Kurt Geiger’s that are now not compatible with runners feet 🤣
