Nice little collection of bars and plates there Ness. I'm jealous.

As lammo suggested I've got the shed set up as a gym. It's got a treadmill (I rarely use it except when it's icy but the kids and Mrs Nellers do on and off), a heavy punchbag (Youngest uses it when he's at home), a concept2 rower (my pride and joy), and an assortment of 1inch diameter barbells and dumbbells.

We've also invested in an olympic barbell which I do use but so far we're quite limited in the weight plates we have for that.

On top of that we've accumulated a couple of slamballs (9kg and 12kg), a random kettlebell, a 20kg sandbag, a barbell stand/squat rack, a bench, a balance board, a set of resistance bands, a skipping rope and an abmat.

If I had my time again I'd go for a slightly wider shed as the oly bar is quite a tight fit width-wise in the shed.

I've also got a vague plan to buy an outdoor rig with pull up bar and wallball target at some stage but Mrs Nellers isn't so keen, plus English weather would restrict use for a chunk of the year.

One tip I'd give is to get good quality rubber matting on the floor of whichever room you do use for your gym. Non-slip, easy to clean and it will absorb some of the noise from dropped weightsand avoid damaging any proper flooring.

Blimey Nellers, how big is the shed? Sounds like you've got loads in there :-)

It's a bit crowded at times.

It has become a useful set, nellers, although we'd be happier if we had a bit more room. There isn't quite enough room for a treadmill. Also my turbo trainer has had to be moved into the garage.

I should mention that the reason I got Mrs Nellers to agree to the shed gym was because she wanted her dining room back.

The dining room now houses the spin bike that we both use which wouldn’t really fit in the shed!😂😂

Hopefully that’s 3 pics of Nellers’ Fitness Palace of Love 😉.

The treadmill and rower fold up/ break down for storage and are mostly out of the way. It’s a good useable space and the small concrete patch in front of the shed is really helpful when it’s dry for skipping or lifting or anything where a bit more room is needed.

Ooh yes: fans! Get a good fan. You’re going to need it in a garage in the summer.

The Fitness Patio:

There are actually surprisingly few days when the weather makes it impossible to use the outdoor space, provided you dress for the conditions.

About This Thread

What equipment would you say is essential for a home gym set-up?

We’re toying with the idea of putting some equipment in either the garage or the spare room, neither me or Mrs Sloth are interested in joining a local gym, mainly as it’s miles away!

I run and cycle, I won’t be using a treadmill as I run outdoors. I’ve already got a turbo trainer so can either use that or get a Wattbike so we can both use it.

What other stuff would people recommend?
