Thanks everyone. Hopefully I will get it sorted out pretty soon.

Thanks for the advice hellen. I have just started going to the gym again and climbing in an effort to strengthen my legs, core etc. I do think it could be an imbalance somewhere and some sort of targetted strength training will probably be the answer. (Fingers crossed!)

Oh on a HRM theme I managed 21 miles yesterday in 3:25 at 62%WHR @9:46 pace yesterday. I was pacing Beejay to show him you can do a 20 plus miler without feeling like you are about to die! :-)

It was a lovely run twice around Derwent Reservoir in Derbyshire...

Just a thought - shall we create an article with people resting and Max HR's as well as age and gender?

Simply as there seem to be more and more people trying this training method and we all get concerned that we aren't NORMAL, according to the formulas. It is clear on this thread that HR can vary massively.

We have people with Maxes of 160 and others well over 200.

Hellen, I'd classify Derwent as undulating with a mixture of road/ cinder track/trail

Good idea Lums :-)

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
