I need to do my RHR again. Haven't done it in months (naughty)

Standing waiting for my Garmin to get a signal last night, the HR said 44. That's cool :-)

Reckon you read it wrong BB, it was more likely yards paced while waiting for signal. I was down to 47/8 pre FLM

smae route as Tuesday
avg pace 11:51/mi ( 3 secs quicker than Tuesday)
avg hr 145bpm ( 67%)

Overall time today was 22 secs faster as well.

Decided to push a bit harder to get closer to 70%, overshot a few times, but apart from last mile when drift had started I pulled it back quickly.
some of the spikes could have been avoided had I not been dancing about to 'Love Won't Be Denied (Len Boone disco classic), but I was having fun so there!

Feel I'm reaching a peak and am finally starting to see some small improvements. Didn't want to turn round and come home today again.

Not thinking beyond next run while this good streak continues!

WGT, that sounds OK for an interval session, you may find that you dont need as much as 1.5mins recovery.
when I did my 800s they took just under 4 mins and I had 80secs recovery, by the 5th one I had had enough so if you are just doing it 3 times 1.5 mins should be plenty. I would be temted to go for 1 minute recovery.
trying to decide what (interval) session to do later today.

last week I did 5 x 800m and didnt like it, it was hard
that was my first interval session for about a month due to a few races and holiday.
I prefer 400s cos the pain is for less time, when I did those I managed 8 of them so even though there are more reps I prefer them due to the rest never being too fat away
I suppose because I am trianing for a marathon I should be doing 800s though. perhaps in time they will be less painful
Am tempted to do a pyramid again - felt really proud of myself being able to program one into my garmin.
last time I did a pyramid I did 400, 800, 1200, 800, 400, I set the garmin so that I recovered until my HR came down to I think 120 which was far too low as it took ages.
What pyramids do others do? Should I make it a bit higher and go up to 1600?

I haven't done a structure interval sesh for ages. I used to do 13 x 400m with 200m recoveries. Used to run the 400m at 6:40 pace ish.

Pyramid sounds tough, and fun. Will have to look into programming the Garmin later. Easy day planned for tonight though.

Warm up today 1.66 miles @ 66%whr
then 3.42 miles (6 x 200m) @ 64% WHR. The 200s were done at a HR of 64-69%whr. Is this too low though it was off road, don't know if i could have gone faster (i used walk back recoveries)

13 x 400 sounds tough, when I did 400s I did 8 or them,

did you build up to 13 gradually? I havnt really done enough sessions to start increasing yet

You know me hellen, I just went at it. I chose 13 simply because I do a 3 mile loop mostly in the mornings so I am not too far from home if things go pear shaped and I won't be late for work.

I used to do 1k warm up - 13x400, 200m recovery, then 1.2k warm down which took me to 6 miles - 2 loops.

Although if I was doing less, I might be able to run them faster.

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
