Looking at an old run, yes it shows pauses (and their duration).

My dad has been threatened with a pacemaker and has keeled over several times but refuses treatment. It has happened to me in the past but infrequently and I've usually put it down to a stumble. Thus time I was on fine gravel with CB with me. No skid marks I was covered in gravel on my hands but no grazes. Only the toes of shoes had gravel on them where I crumpled to floor. So this is making me question what happened

From what I can see on Garmin Connect is a sharp drop at 7min12sec to 7min13secs in hr. 7min13secs pace and cadence both stop which I'm assuming is the point I paused my watch. Will do gpx conversion at the weekend when I'm home thanks for help and advice. I'm not convinced on accuracy of data recorded though as it's optical hr.....

I can read my gpx file just as a text file in eg Wordpad. It is an inelegant solution which means scanning down a long list of entries, but it is quick and straightforward.

How long should one of these soft Garmin HR straps last then? Mine stopped working yesterday and I've just replaced the battery but it still seems to be dead.

If you're talking about the older version Nellers then I've never had much luck with replacing the battery. I just buy new ones.

However, my latest one, with the transmitter permanently fixed, has survived a change.

It one where the transmitter pod bit clips into the belt with 2 poppers, Glenn. I've got 2 of the older plastic ones from previous Garmins and I've got one of them to connect to the watch so I'm not too fussed but it's just a bit of a pain having one that doesn't work.

Mine died a couple of weeks ago, bit that was the battery. There doesn't seem much to go wrong with the strap itself, especially if it doesn't look worn out?

Did you try re-pairing Nellers? I almost condemned an HR strap a while back after it went low battery (I thought) but then it wouldn't work with a new battery. Seems they need re-pairing sometimes.

Try one of the Polar soft straps ( amazon.co.uk ), they work much better with the Garmin pod, you just need to cut away a bit of the rubber around the poppers to make them fit the pod well.

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
