120 (60%) = No idea

118 (65%) = 9.45 -10.00m/m

137 (75%) = 8.45-9.00 m/m

146 (80%) = 8.00-8.15 m/m
156 (85%) = 7.30 mm

Cheers HOD, yeah that looks like pretty uniform pace improvements accross increases in the HRs. Do you run your 5Ks at pretty much 90% max HR then?

Anyone else care sharing?
Any other experiences of drops in HR whilst mid-run?
Anyone else have to really concentrate and change their stride to pick up the pace, or do you do it by upping the cadence?
Do people track their recovery in the minute or so after a run... If so, what is normal for you?

SSLHP (Shoes smell like horse piss)
Here's mine from last week (which, incidentally is a vast pace improvement at the same heart rates from 6 weeks ago). I couldn't quite match some of the targeted heart rates (130, 150 and 160), but close enough

131 (72%) 10.14
140 (77%) 9.11
151 (83%) 7.59
162 (89%) 7.07

...these were recorded over 4 laps (1 mile) around a flat running track. 1 lap to establish and lock onto appropriate HR, then continie to do the 4 laps, then 90s ish recovery before going again for next HR.

When I run 5ks to 'time' I pretty much run flat out to the pace I can sustain for 3 miles. Which is uncomfortable lol.

Last one I did 6.59 pace starting at a 'sedentry' ;-) 7.10

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
