Shame this year wasn't short, as then my appalling performance would be struck from the records :-)

All publicity is good publicity as they say. I'll be very surprised if this is the death nail for GMM. I will be disappointed if it is. I can understand how some people are very pissed off. Me to some extent but I think plenty will be back me included. It's not all about the time and knowing you've ran as fast as you can for that distance (albeit short) is still an achievement to be proud of as far as I'm concerned. My GMM medals won't be thought of any differently accurate distance or short. Bring on the 2017 thread Nelly ;-)

I can fully understand people who are local to the event wishing to portray the other side.

However, this 'cock-up' was for THREE YEARS!!!!

If they'd only made a mess of 2013, that is one thing.

But repeating the mistake THREE times.

I know that when the distance of the Cambridge parkrun was called as 'short' the organisers went out of their way to measure and re-measure the course to confirm it was really 5k. And this is a 'free' event.

A big city event should, in my view, conduct due diligence. As flanker rightly states, if guided to a mountain summit and the guide was so incompetent that led you to a minor summit, that is inexcusable.

Rant over.

I think the worst part of all the Manchester mara fiasco over the last fortnight, for me, is the though I might have to do Edinburgh next year again... It's a real shame, as when I crossed the line I was certain I'd run the 2017 race. Now I'm pretty sure I won't.

The support on course was great, and I really enjoyed the weekend in Manchester but I'm not sure I'm willing to fork out so much money for an event that I'll go into thinking 'what's going to go wrong this time?'

Being proud of local events, e.g. Bungay and Halstead, is why I'm so vocal when BIG or MASSIVE 'city' events get it so wrong. The basics are just that, basic.

FR - yes they made a mistake for 3 years, but they didn't repeat the mistake THREE times. it happened first in 2013, and they repeated it TWICE in 2014 and 2015 :-)

Sorry, they f@cked up three times and repeated the f@ck up TWICE, happy.

I'm sure all those PBers will be ecstatic :-)
