I know a few :), and no not in Sale Harriers This is a flat course, the only incline I can think of is between 18 and 20k, where you leave Altrincham heading towards Dunham.
Admittedly around the halfway mark through Warburton, this is country lanes, so won't be a lot of support. The last stretch, should be good. Through Flixton, Urmston (past my local) and through Stretford, on the main road between the villages/towns
This will be my first since Connemara 2008, a vastly different terrain, so looking forward to it

Im dithering
This would be excellent value for money if it was a City centre marathon. It is not.
Marato Barcelona costs £40 and goes straight through the centre past all the major landmarks.
This race goes through some suburban areas and a few country roads.
What my biggest hang up is, is that they are selling it as a revival of the former Manchester Marathon.
Let me tell you, it is not that.
But it's local and I won't need to pay accommodation. But pound for mile it is a rip off compared to The Stockport 10, Rochdale 10k, any race in The Manchester Parks Grand Prix Series, Any Manchester XC race or plenty of local races.
I'm not saying don't do it - im likely too form convenience. But it is not the revival of the former Manchester Marathon (as the Race History page implies), it is not a big city centre race, it is not (so far as i know) organised by local clubs and, above all - is it a not for profit venture (seriously, do Stockport Harroers laugh to the bank when they flog that race with a tech tee and enough goodies in the bag to fill an Xmas stocking) or a means to profit?
On the plus side, it's cheaper per mile than "great" Manchester Run and it is good to see a marathon near Manchester. But it ain't a revival. It ain't a not for profit race. I can't see it warming my soul the way a fell race or charity race does.

What's wrong with races making a profit?
Many city marathons have long long stretches through pretty grim and unattractive areas. Dublin for one is such a tiny city that there's not much choice. This doesn't claim to be in the city, it's the Greater Manchester mara. Goes past the Imperial War Museum which is a stunning building if you want sightseeing.
Having run 100+ marathons, this is not one of the more expensive road versions in my opinion.
