I always cross if there is no traffic and avoid pressing the buttons if I can see a gap behind oncoming vehicles. I also skirt around those annoying barriers that make you take a long route between crossing points.

A small boy said to his dad "look what that man's doing!" He was genuinely shocked. Presumably if I'd taken out a gun and shot everyone he'd have been less surprised.
