And Jen yes I agree, it's not a right but a choice.

That's an interesting point, Nick. We live in a society where if a household appliance stops working it's legitimate to get someone outside the family to fix it but we don't extend that idea to sex. Whether we should or not, I can't decide. I suppose we're not inclined to get emotionally attached to our washing machines and dishwashers, though :-)

@ JenL You get used to things though. Get to know their idiocyncracies [?spelling].
One persons 'normal' is another persons 'desert' or 'ocean'.

I've found over the years that 'never again' is very rarely 'never again'. Circumstances and feelings change for many reasons.

Not that I'm advocating breaking relationship trust or anything else, but I suppose this does raise the question of how natural monogamy is. How cultural it is as opposed to our 'animal' instincts.

Do you think some people are too impatient and too ready to throw everything away when the sex doesn't work then, Muddie? Or perhaps it becomes "the thing we just don't talk about" and both parties think they know what the other is thinking about it but neither bothers to bring it up for fear of conflict?

Monogamy came in as a way of controlling women's behaviour, Teaboy, to protect inheritances and property (which of course women also were for many centuries). Men were a bit late to that party :-) But I think you have a very valid point.

That thing about having a "right" to have sex has led to many affairs, from what I've seen.

It isn't whether it is a right or not. Because I don't believe it is. But there are natural instincts that will lead people to seek it out if they aren't getting it. Sadly this does lead to some bad consequences, but it is also the reason why our species and every other species has managed to procreate.
