Annie Mac âbefore midnightâ at Brixton Academy. Ravey dancey disco-ey tunes for those who like to not stay out all night. Very good. But a shame what has become of the Academy, formerly one of my favourite venues. So many health and safety hoops to jump though to get their licence back after the fatalities a couple of years ago. All caused by lawless ticketless mindless arseholes. |

LindsD wrote: What's different, Fitz? It took about 45 mins to get in. Entry is now a series of queue-funnels around the outside of the building: along Stockwell Rd, right into Stockwell Park Walk, right again into Astoria Walk which is the old alley to the side where the entry queue used to be. Cloakrooms utterly overwhelmed, understaffed, and seemingly incapable of predicting 4,000 middle-aged people with coats on a November evening. I reckon that queue was about 25 minutes and the anticipation of the return fixture meant we decided to leave early. All of which left the stalls floor only half full at 9pm, an hour after Annie Mac started. Which at least made it easy to spot the additional fixed barriers that have gone up throughout the room, like a 1970s football stadium. Plenty of crowd pinch-points near those barriers, surely the opposite effect to that intended. |

That's disappointing. I used to really like it too.

I didnât mind Brixton when I went in May - first proper gig back there (Editors with 86TVs supporting) Iâd been previously before the changes too and didnât seem any different to be - still a bloody awesome venue. The queue travelled really quick getting in and the bright yellow barriers didnât seem to cause an issue either and it was packed full. |

Saw Idles at the Hydro in Glasgow on Saturday. Fantastic gig and full of the energy you'd expect from them. Willie J Healey supported - His rockier stuff came over well but the funkier slower stuff didnt really work with that crowd and venue |

I was in Lewes last night at the Con Club to see friends of mine acoustic folk guitar duo and sometimes added violin all with a silly name (HoverDonkey) supporting Shovel Dance Collective. Both were excellent and it was sold out.
