Glad you had a good time @northernslowcoach . Although the gig itself seemed to go very well, I saw that the band have acknowledged the many negative reports of the venue (uncomfortably overcrowded, poor views).

I saw Maximo Park on Friday night in London, McGoohan - agree they're still ace! Couple of other gigs to report - Ride the previous Saturday night in Hackney Church, repeating their set from Reading Festival 1992 which my Ride superfan gig buddy reckons is pretty much at their peak, ie, around the release of their second album. Very good indeed. And The Last Dinner Party at Hammersmith Apollo last Wednesday - very much a younger average age and a far higher percentage of women in the audience than a lot of old man gigs I go to. It's all quite studied and choreographed, maybe not quite in a Taylor Swift style but with my cynical eyes it's very clear they know just what poses everyone pulls at what time, exactly where to sit on the stepped stage, the guitarist steps into the middle of the stage for solos, that sort of thing. But it's easy to be cynical, and they have at least half a dozen excellent pop songs, and they embrace their style (sample stage banter: "Is this anyones first LDP show?...you're welcome!...even if you aren't wearing a corset!...remember next time though...") and the young people had a good singalong to Nothing Matters to close the show. Good fun! |

Was dismayed to see that a band I've been waiting for for ages, Modern Woman, had announced a show in Glasgow on 10th Feb but it turned out I already had Deadletter booked for that date. Imagine my joy when I realised they were actually supporting Deadletter ... so not only will I see them, I won't even have to buy a ticket. Also bought a ticket for White Denim. Would probably have bought one anyway but the fact that the brilliant Plantoid are supporting sealed the deal for me. |

@z1000jeff Thanks for the tip - wasn't familiar with Deadletter/Modern Woman but have spotificated, like very much, and they're playing not too far from me, just before my birthday which justifies the ticket even more
