Evening. I'm going to slowly get back to fitness. :-)

I'm doing a buggyfit class twice a week and am going to attempt to do a lot more walking during the week as to strengthen my back muscles. But I am not running right now as I need to make sure my back is on the mend.

Thankfully the NHS has referred me to a physio and shockingly it only took a week for an appointment to come through.

Os - sounds to me a very sensible way to build fitness up again!

I've started run-walking a bit, up to about 2 .5 miles so far... Still getting low abdominal pain when running. I presume I just need to build up the core muscles again slowly, but wondered what others have done?

You didn't have a C section did you Special K? That does take a while to heal fully (took mine 2 years to stop niggling). Its amazing how much you use your lower abs when running - you only realise when they hurt a bit! I think its the usual advice though - if it really hurts, stop!

I found post-natal pilates really useful - was lucky enough to have a proper class locally, and that made a huge difference in knitting all the bits and muscles back together.

Thanks treacle. No, I didn't have a c section... I think those core muscles are improving slowly. I suppose I didn't realise how important they are to running before! I'll keep going with the core exercises and gentle running and see how it goes.

Well done everyone on the getting back to fitness and racing.

I'm hoping today marks the comeback to training again. 6 weeks ago I was in good shape and about to have a crack at a half marathon pb, then I got a cold and so didn't do the race, then Oliver got Ill, then I got another cold developing into a 3 week sinus infection. Last Saturday was my first Parkrun back for weeks, then that evening I started feeling odd, and then a couple of hours later, struck down by the dreaded vomiting bug that was doing the rounds!

So today, over the bug, it was Parkrun again and it didn't go too badly considering. Hoping to start getting some decent training in again after two 30 mile months and enter some races!

Nice autocorrect there KP! ;-) :-)

I need to work on speed too. I always have in mind to build a base first, then move to speed. Trouble is something always crops up before I get to the doing speed bit at the moment. My last intervals were on Christmas day!
