Any ideas my PT does not have a watch he is old school. He plays rugby competitively so does not need one .But he is starting doing 30m sprints with recovery time so my question he does not want to pay a lot what watch do you suggest so he can set up his intervals on watch.

Well ’old school' would use bog standard stopwatch and measured distance. None of the coaches at track are taking session times via Garmins that's just the athletes. |

When I read that again it sounds like this is for personal use. The same could apply though. I'm not sure it's worth a £100+ watch just to do what he wants, I'd also not be convinced by distance on Garmin for such a short rep (I use seconds for sprints if not on track rather than distance). FR45 can do what you want I believe though and possibly the FR35. |

Is anyone else having trouble syncing to Garmin Connect? My activity data is going through but other data e.g. step count is not being populated. My training status hasn't updated since 19 May.

Agree with SPR, if it's 30m sprints then the GPS isn't going to be sufficient to measure that with any reliability. But if instead what he's looking to do is just record the activities (e.g. start, stop, recover) and then have them stored online for reference, then just about any basic watch will do. FR45 would certainly work for that and it can be programmed to record a workout with a structure that will fit for 30m sprints. e.g. when I do "strides" I set my watch for (say) up to 20 x "Run - until lap button press". So when I use that I hit "start" and then "stop" when I finish the rep. Then hit "lap" and when I start the next rep I hit "start" again. In my log I end up with (say) 8x individual laps with their times recorded. But I don't rely on the watch to beep at me to tell me I've covered 100m or so, I just do the strides "by eye" or based on a regularly used section of road. 30m would be just under 0.02 of a mile, a little bit of GPS wobble and that distance would be badly recorded I'd expect. |

Hi westmoors, all I can offer is that my data is syncing correctly. Did you change anything in your setup around the 19th? Sorry, I'm no expert.

It might also be possible to get a Timex that has interval mode which would allow you to do things by time. I used to have one years ago but I'm not sure if they still exist without GPS which is what would keep the price down.

I really want to thank SPR and larkins you made so much sense and I can relay to G what he needs or don't need.I never run sprints so out of my comfort zone. When I first took up running I had the timex interval watch -it was very good. I think the 30m sounds like my 20 seconds intervals as I seem to cover 0.02m in the 20 seconds(way too short for me as can never get up to speed until last rep) I spotted a FR45 on Ebay for £70 so will tell G about it and see what he says.He is my strength training coach and often chew the fat about different styles of running. |

Cex do 24 month guarantees on some watches. Cheapest at mo is a forerunner 235 @ £75. Possibly postage on top unless your local store has one. uk.webuy.com However like most above I think a stopwatch would be better for 30m repeats. |
