That link doesn't work for me but it's probably what I've seen previously where the feature could only raise your max based on an actual recorded HR not lower it presumably based on some theory.

It lowers as well based on theory on my watch (955). As I said, when I got it I saw the prompt a few times in a short space but not I never see it (ie the watch thinks it has me figured out!)

That’s my understanding too chunkywizard. I’ve had my 255 for a few weeks and it seems to be settling on a reasonable max heart rate. The race predictor is way off though. It’s predicting 52 mins for a 5k despite me actually running one in 34 minutes last week! |

PenW, my race predictor seems to ok, maybe it will take a while to settle for you. Its way better than previous generations but still a bit optimistic in my opinion. My best 5K of the year is 19:40, my predictor is currently at 19:04 (but I am tapering for a half on Sunday)

That seems very wrong PenW, is the max it settled on correct? CW your comment made me Google firstbeat (been looking at Garmin) and my theory of fitness age may be correct based on this. https://support.firstbeat.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015387173-How-is-the-maximum-heart-rate-in-background-information-determined- My cycling max has defaulted to this but I haven't done any cycling. A fitness age of 26 would get me the 193 it has come up with. |

Glad it doesn't use that for me. Apparently my fitness age is 20, so that would give me an estimated max of 197, which is waaaaay too high.

The heart rate data looks right for me. The predictions are coming down very slowly. But I wonder if it actually hasn’t counted the last 5k because I was doing a garmin coach program and the run was 3 miles, I completed it at parkrun and continued after the workout ended. But even so, my easy runs are between 11:30 and 12:30 min miles and that gets me round 5k far quicker than predicted. Maybe it’s confused by my many very slow walks with the dog but they are recorded as walks so it shouldn’t be. Hopefully it will gradually adjust to a reasonable prediction. Overall though it’s much less ‘judge’ than my previous garmin with much less “unproductive“! |

SPR, that firstbeat FAQ is from 2 years ago. I would wager it isn't like this in the current watches as they are constantly updating metrics as the HR/HRV data gets better on newer version of the Elevate platform (the Garmin HR optical sensor)

Pen, I see fewer unproductives as well, (and a lot more maintaining). I record lots of walks on my 955 and also follow Daily Suggested Workouts (DSWs) and continue to record after the workout is over. It should cope with that I believe. Hopefully it will learn you in the next few weeks.
