Well that was a success wasn’t it? Hadn’t read the book but thoroughly enjoyed the episode after a slightly slow start.

Only just got round to watching it. I’ve been busy. Thought it was excellent. I’ve read the book it’s based on so know the general outline of what goes on but the details and the twists and turns of plotting and conspiring are long forgotten. Can’t wait for next week now.

Just watched. Thought it set up the rest of the series very nicely. Had the scale and feel of GOT with the familiar settings and music (and gore and nudity), but with brand new characters, albeit with some familiar houses. Also loved that Viserys passed the ‘secret’ on, which obviously failed to get passed on by the Mad King (or someone earlier…), thereby allowing the events of Ice and Fire to occur.

Quite glad I’d seen some of the preview stuff as there were a lot of new characters, having had the introductions to them helped a lot.

Yeah it was nice to have those familiar echos of Game of Thrones. A sex scene within 5 mins and plenty of gore. The birth scene was a little much for me.

I loved that secret being passed down, Meglet. It's a show invention (the book is written as an "in unierse history" written by maestors and septons so it clearly wouldn't include the great secret only passed down to the heir. It is a show invention in a show that GRR has a lot of involvement with so it's either his idea or an idea he approves of.
I'd assumed that the secret died with Rhaegar though, Meglet.

I do wonder if one of the things Bran will learn in the books (if they ever get finished! COME ON GEORGE! We’re all still waiting!) is about this prophetic dream that inspired the Targs to conquer Westeros?
At the stage we’re at in the books, and adding in what we might have learned in the show, no-one alive knows but Bran can see back to all sorts of things (eg the Tower of Joy).
I’m also guessing that this prophecy will make Jon Snow’s actual parentage far more relevant in the books than it became in the show.

Apparently George has confirmed that Aegon’s Dream was his idea.
