For me the key to England performing is firstly to stop the berks at the back dawdling in possession (They play themselves into trouble way too much and aren't as good on the ball as they all think they are), secondly, movement is key to give the passer an option that isn't sideways or backwards and the players are seemingly a bit lazy in an England shirt compared to their club shirts and Thirdly if the opposition has the ball letting them run 50 yards up the pitch before anyone thinks to put some pressure on them is counter productive. The whole mentality of the team is to receive a pass either facing their own goal or to turn towards their own goal immediately on receiving it. Its so frustrating and whilst I understand the value of possession we aren't going to score by passing a corner back to Pickford. For me the centre spine of Stones-Rice-Kane have been dreadful in this tournament when they should be leading. Rice doesnt seem able to pick an attacking pass when he wears a white shirt, Kane doesnt get into attacking positions and drops deeper and deeper and then doesnt have the pace to move up quickly enough and Stones is like watching paint dry. _ don't think England should be winning every tournament or game but they should be creating far more given the players at their disposal - Balon D'or nominees etc. and there is no stand out team at this tournament (so Italy will win) so its a great chance for this group of players and they are being sent out with a muddled gameplan that plays to nobodys strengths and will continue the trend of getting beaten as soon as they play a decently ranked side. |

@stuart little I looked at the fixture list for this season, and it's harder than it looks. If only it was all Burton (who will probably beat us). Reading opening game, and there's Wigan, Wrexham, Huddersfield, Stockport in the first few games. All the kind of games we'd fail to win in the championship (wrexham excepted). But variety and all that. Who needs the prem ?

I think (hope) England will be better once we start playing attacking teams, despite the Denmark game. But I'm not sure Slovakia will be that much of an attacking team and I fear we'll have more of the same next up.

@Chrisull it'll certainly be tough to get out of League one this year (unless you're trying to set up derbies with Walsall...). TBH, I'm no fan of the prem - I follow it because the Villa are in it, but I enjoy the unpredictability of the conference more

The berks at the back have nobody to pass too because Kane, Bellingham and Foden are all on top of each other and nobody has a left foot.

Bob!
And those at the back aren't allowed to pass forward anyway, they have to give it to Rice so that he can do that.

And Rice isn't all that great compared to other central midfield titans. He's one of these good, but not great central mids that England produce. I mean I'd rather have Ngolo Kante anyday.
