Going well Nellers!

I'm four weeks out from the Thames half-marathon swim (5.5k near Marlow) and was quite chuffed to manage seven 500m loops in the lake this morning with only a couple of short pauses, though it's measuring more like 450m on garmin so ended up with slightly less distance than I thought. I've had to send my wetsuit off to have a tear mended so was even more chuffed that I did it in skins (which I almost prefer as you can move a bit more freely than in a wetsuit - plus I got to show off my new and very bright swimsuit!).

Am eating all the food now :-)

Food is fuel, CasB! Well done on getting that session done, and good luck with the event. Can't see myself ever swimming that far in one go.

Well done. You will smash it. I can't remember my longest swim before the event but I'm pretty sure it wasn't over 3k.

Thank you both! Nellers I'm placing quite a lot of faith in the current to carry me through :-) along with LindsD's excellent experience and reassurances.

Great swimming, Nellers, I guess you’ll get the challenge done and dusted in your next swim?

Not quite, @KatieB , but hopefully during the week. A smidge less than 3k to go and I usually swim around 2k when I do a morning swim. Thursday looks realistic to cross the line and I think @Sushi promised to have the kettle on for when I get there. ;-)

I used to swim just short distances generally (less than 1000m, sometimes considerably less), it was all I could manage. After joining the Uni sports facilities, I'd swim more often and sometimes further, but also short distances alongside a gym or a run (sometimes two swims, either side).

After a period of very little swimming, I'm going more often (a bit, monthly-ish) and since I have to pay every time, and the relative price has risen, I try to make sure I'm extracting maximum value. Ideally an hour plus.

(The above relates to posts on the previous page, rather than just being completely random.)

In the challenge, I'm only at 10.2 km. Might finish by October next year ;-)
