Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

Just a thought (as I'm rural and have never seen a Traffic Light), but in deference to people who could conceivably be penned in by lights ... is it possible to modify the process so that a runner only pays the traffic light fee once per week. So if you're hemmed in you can run past the same one each time and limit your losses, but the owner still gets a benefit.

It just feels off that there's part of the game that disincentivises exercise.

Thanks Doc - I just feel as though I'm having the sort of week where everything I do has pissed at least one person off. It'll pass :-)

Yes, feedback is good, even if it's sometimes tough to take.

gwowen - I like the suggestion of a once a week fee, but I'd also counter-argue that it isn't a disincentive to exercise, if the only way to avoid the fee is to go the long way round, or to find a new route.

Fizz :-)
It could be an incentive - you have to get out first to claim them ;-)

Maybe put a time limit, where they expire seven days after they reach the cap?

My earlier suggestions were that (a) we see how this changes gameplay, and (b) there's potential for further changes to make the fees different for running, cycling and walking. One of the oldest complaints about the game is usually something about cyclists having an unfair advantage, so that might be something to think about.

Here's my other idea. It's called the Fetchpoint Jackpot. I sprinkle the map with numbered markers, from 0 to 9. The server generates a random six digit code (which is the same code for everyone) - and if you 'guess' that by running the right sequence, then you win the jackpot of (say) 1000 credits. If you don't get it right, you get told whether your guess was too high or too low. It's then up to you whether you share that information with everyone else; or whether you share false information to throw everyone else off the scent as you hunt the goodies. Once the right sequence has been discovered, the code regenerates, and round we go again.

Fetchpoint is always going to be difficult to change as it is played differently by different people with the urban /rural and player density making big differences to the strategy.

@fetcheveryone - "if the only way to avoid the fee is to go the long way round, or to find a new route"

If I can find a relatively straightforward route that dodges the TL, that doesn't really fit my concept of "hemmed in".

There are only three or four routes out of my circle that don't involve significant gradients over rough terrain. If I had to avoid the valley-roads out every time I exercised, I would feel extremely disincentivised.

Gosh that might strain the brain. But a good idea in that you are not disadvantaged if you don't actively engage with it. As you know fetchpoint is my favorite game by a long way and I've played it since I first joined so perhaps feele strongly about it than I should. One of the things about the game is u always gain points by getting out of the door, even if you don't check your map or plan beforehand and that is the one thing that I feel needs to remain. IMHO

Sorry, I was rather negative, I should try it first. Obviously if I get all the local traffic lights it will be the best innovation ever anyway.
The jackpot idea sounds good fun certainly.

The jackpot sounds like fun!

I like the idea too - if it's possible - of introducing an element of randomness to traffic lights, so lifespan / when they need topping up changes randomly. (Plus it would match our council who seem to be sticking temporary traffic lights and roadworks all over the place at the moment 🙂)

I can also help the folks who train in the evenings by making the traffic lights spawn at random times of the day. Then everyone has an equal chance of spotting and nabbing one.
