Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Well done Pam. I feel I had a lack Saturday so hopefully I’m now pulling it back in again.

That’s fantastic Pam! Well done.

We’ve eaten fab food and walked miles but I am hoping to not be too many lbs up when we get back and def in the mind to get some headway in losing some weight.

I told my friend about your amazing progress last night Rev (her sister is struggling massively) and she said how amazing you’ve done and led us into a huge chat about lifestyle which her sister really needs.

Well done, Pam. It’s amazing how quickly things can move when they want to.

I am a little becalmed myself at the moment - a couple of unwise eating decisions and not sticking to my fasts had me up several pounds from my triumph of last week. But I don’t feel there is anything fundamentally different (in a bad way), it’s just the usual fluctuations which I happened to catch at their lowest point. I will get back there. The trendweight website says I am still going ever so slightly down.

@geordiegirl nice to know I am inspiring people at a distance. Was the sister present?

If people want to know where to start, I would say two things:

1) Eliminate, or at least reduce, eating between meals, and make sure you go at least 12 hours overnight (preferably more) without consuming any calories.

2) Reduce processed foods and carbs, and *especially* processed carbs, in favour of whole real foods. (And don’t worry about fat content too much)

Tomorrow is going to be interesting, as we go for our scans as part of the BioBank study. My WiThings scale at home says my body fat is 44.4% (yikes). Even the much friendlier Boditrax scanner at the gym says I am 38.9%. Let’s see what the MRI scan makes of me.

RevB - will be good to get an accurate body fat and muscle %'s.

My Renpho scales are so wrong, my body fat is about 27 or 28%, my Renpho scales say 19%. I hope nobody is fooling themselves that their home scales readings are accurate.

I have a gym review with the instructor tomorrow and we'll do a body analysis too. I know results won't be good. Post Covid my weight is stable but my measurements have increased so that's muscle loss and fat gain. 😭 But that's what the review is for, to reverse that process. Lots of hard work to do.

No sister wasn’t present, she has had a lot of trauma in her life including losing her only son, is heavily overweight, comfort eats, knows it, but is powerless to change. Friend said when they go shopping and sis will have 2-3 coffee breaks all with cake, whipped cream hot chocolates and that is on top of lunch. She is worried she may lose her sister (heart attack in summer)

Friend keeps trying to help but struggles with it coming across as preachy. Friend is one of 4 sisters, she is very slim as she is super strict and exercises a lot, the other 3 are over weight to different degrees.

It’s bloody hard as we know, I quite honestly don’t eat much at all and struggle to lose weight. I def need to work more on eating more of the right things and less of the not so right things.

Poor sister, she probably needs therapy to deal with the trauma before she has any hope of changing her eating habits.

I am also one of four sisters. One was always very slim, but no longer is - although she never got terribly big and has lost weight recently - she was diagnosed with fatty liver disease earlier this year. One was always significantly overweight, though never as big as I was - she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a year ago. The other was probably in the “I’d like to lose a stone” category most of her life, but looks fairly slim since she took up serious walking on a regular basis.

Gym review. Fat % up to 30%, disappointed but not surprised really.

Good news the muscle imbalance in my quads has returned to my normal level. Now back to 0.1kg, which is fine.

New programme to specifically address problems from long injury period and sciatica. Lots if work to strengthen knees.

An interesting day being scanned (and poked, prodded, measured, samples taken, questionnaires completed, cognitive and hearing tests done etc).

But the disappointment is that although the MRI scan they did of my heat and abdomen will have worked out total and visceral body fat, that’s not among the information they have given me:-( The BF% they have given me is from the impedance scale I was asked to stand on.

On the basis that it a) has handgrips; b) took a lot longer than the one at my gym, I am working on the basis that it is more accurate. It said 40.7%, which is roughly 1/3 of the way between the gym scale and my home one.

I have decided to switch on athlete mode on my scale (it says if you do more than 8 hours of exercise a week - I could be close - but also if you have a RHR below 60, you may need to use athlete mode). I’ll see what difference that makes. It hasn’t changed the % on old readings, and I’m not sure if it will. But it says you have to do 2 or 3 readings or wait 24 hours for it to take effect. Let’s wait and see.

What is undeniable visually is that I still have weight to lose.

According to the documentation , I am 37lb above the recommended range. To put it another way - 37lb stand between me and a BMI of 25. Whereas Mr is 56lb, aka 4 stone, above. I am less overweight than my other half.

This requires processing.

I also looked up the old paperwork. I joined the study in March 2009, which is longer ago than I thought. I weighed 20st 11lb and had BF% 51.7%.

My BF has gone down by 11%. Mr’s has gone up by 8.7%.
