They are impressive improvements Rev, is there any chance they’d give you your full readings? We’ve eaten some lovely food here walked a lot but it’s also not being as healthy as we are at home, just the nature of eating out makes it higher calorie. I will get some focus when I’m back working around the Xmas festivities with a view to push in January. |

Lizzie - if that was for me, then yes, definitely I am. And if I were to stick here for ever, I would still be pleased. GG - no, no chance. As a participant in this part of the study, I agreed that I wouldn’t be getting the scans. I have identified somewhere I can get a DEXA body composition scan (£130, or £330 for 3) an hour and a half’s drive away. And somewhere in Exeter, which is our local “big smoke” where I can get an assessment using an ultrasound body scanner for £55. I’m weighing up what to do, but concluding there is no point in doing either until I’m much closer to “done”. |

RevB - very interesting and congratulations again on what you have achieved. I guess your OH isn't feeling so great about his stats. The body analyser at my gym has handles that we then hold after a minute or so after the machine has registered first set of data. I'm happy to continue using that one as I find it consistent and quite sensitive to change, such as once when I was dehydrated and results were completely screwed up. The gym analyser measured yesterday that the muscle imbalance in my quads has reverted to normal, I thought it might have as I had been working hard to correct it. I have my home Renpho scales switched to athlete mode as I fit the criteria and it's way out. It has my body fat % as 20% when it's actually 30% (gym), so that's a 50% error margin which is a lot. I just think it's so dangerous that so many will think they have a healthy fat % and they don't. 30% for me is over ideal range. I think a good idea to maybe book a scan when you've reached your target weight. I think it would just confirm that you had done everything possible to improve your health. I might consider getting one myself as I'd like to see if my bone density is OK. |

I think Biobank missed a bit of a trick (I am in it and have also been processed), they could offer a download of all scans for a charge - I would be happy to pay a couple of hundred quid to have a close look at my insides (and especially my knees) and maybe pay a medic for a detailed analysis. Getting older, can’t be too careful.

@Non-runner that’s a very interesting idea! I’ve just done the “how did we do?” questionnaire and one of the questions was “would you be willing to be scanned again in 12 months?”. I said yes. Although I’d have expected them to wait longer. Apparently they were trying to recruit 100,000 for the initial scan and 60,000 of those for the repeat. |
