It seems like I think by just joining this thread the weight will come off when I've neither a. weighed myself nor b. set a target nor c. changed my eating habits.

We have so much Christmas stuff still in the house, this despite my mother twice telling me how offended she is that I didn't take my usual slab of Christmas cake from her house.

Here's a plan: the kids go back on Thursday. From then, I will:

1. Cut down/out bread
2. Stop eating chocolate except at weekends
3. Weigh myself (thurs or fri - I have to go to the gym or Boots to do it as no scales in the house)
4. Stop having second helpings.

There, that feels better.

Good work GM, onward and upward (or should I say downward), Rev!

Started in earnest today, (too many Christmas leftovers and open bottles of booze yesterday). Eggs for breakfast, tuna and chickpea salad for lunch. Probably won't get to run until children go back to school on Thursday.

Good plan DrTD.

Yes the bread thing really helped me last year.

I have a choc stash which needs taking care of ;-).

Portion control is the key too

I cant eat bread due to my yeast intolerance - that is the thing I really need to get to grips with - back to a yeast free diet. Am suffering a bit at the moment due to over indulging in the pesky stuff, so that's first on my list. Also cut right down on the sugar (along same line as the yeast, not really allowed much of the stuff).

It's interesting...... when I first started dieting off my own bat in the late 1970's, so much of the publicity said things like "We used to think it was bread and potatoes that made you fat - but now we know it's not them, it's the fat in the butter and cheese you put on them."

Yet the recommendation to cut fat to lose weight is based purely on the assumption that because fat has more calories per gram, it must have more impact on weight than either protein or carbs. But when they actually do experiments, they find the opposite.

Then again, twin studies show that pairs of twins put on the same diet vary remarkably in the amount of weight lost.... but from one twin to another, it's virtually identical.

Different foods affect us in different ways........ and affect different people in different ways. It doesn't matter how low calorie it is, if it leaves you feeling hungry and unsatisfied, it ain't gonna work, because you'll eventually go and eat something else.

Do what works for you.... which may not be what works for me :-)

Good point Rev.

Doing OK so far. Healthy breakfast, healthy lunch, small handful of Maltesers. Resisted the chips and pizza I have given LittleD and her friends for her movie party.

I'm back at work now and it's already affecting my eating patterns.
I took breakfast (avocado and egg) to school with me to have at 9am ish as 7am seemed too early to eat (I've tended towards a mid-morning meal whilst off work). But, with one thing and another, I didn't get chance to eat it until 10:45am.
The spicy red pepper and butternut squash soup I was expecting to have for lunch (1:30 ish I thought) is still in my office, untouched. I'll have it tomorrow instead.
I'm waiting for the Tesco delivery to come (due before 5pm) before making tea (homemade crab cakes with various veg). It will end up as a very low calorie day at this rate!

I've since had a bullet-proof coffee (butter and coconut oil blended in). Very warming - my study is still cold, despite the heating being on since 8am. I have retreated to the lounge and an extra long cardigan.
