Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Never heard of the OS benchmarks until yesterday. Here's a photo (from the internet) of the closest accessible one to me. Finding the church will be the easy part, finding the benchmark may take a few minutes longer.

That's much trickier to find than the one on a house just down the road from here :)

My nearest one (that still exists) is also on our village church and the picture of it shows a similar part of a brick wall without being very specific about which side of the church it is. There were three others, all of which I would have passed on my run yesterday but two were on structures that no longer exist and the third was on a bridge but the bit of the bridge that it was on has been rebuilt and benchmark has gone.

There are nearer ones that run along a disused railway that is not accessible to the public.

Didn’t take pics today (in the zone!) but I counted a lot of legs on pubs! 2 for the Jolly Fenman, 6 for the Three Blackbirds, 4 for the Old Black Horse (think that’s what it was called - definitely something about a horse!), and lots for the Black Boy ( :-O ) which has a picture of the eponymous lad drumming ahead of a troop of infantrymen. It was getting a bit dark by then so didn’t manage to count all the legs.

It's very annoying re the pub name - there's a pub near us which used to be called The Five Alls, with a sign which showed a king, a judge, a soldier, a bishop and a peasant - lots of legs! But just like in Ambridge, when it was tarted up recently I see they've renamed it, to 'The Fives' - which admittedly is what it was always known as locally, but the sign and the relevance has gone :-(

I feel your pain Daisy, we used to have The White Hart, which someone in their wisdom and to my disgust renamed The White Heart. Unfortunately it went out of business recently and last week was set on fire!

Even without taking pics keeping an eye open for “treasure” is a great way to keep the mind awake during long runs :-)
