Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I used to like a pint of very well kept Abbot in the Shepherd's Rest at Bagthorpe when Mini Nico was a toddler. So 2006/2007? Can't say I've had many since.

As to whether it has to be a nationally available beer - no I don't think so. The guys that won the supreme champion award this year are from a brewery with 2 full time and 2 part time staff. One of the part timers thinks he'll probably have to become full time as a result of the win. I can't recall ever having had one of their beers before (but I don't keep a diligent record of such things!)

My memory of Abbot is it being a bit darker and stronger back in the day.

I would imagine they'll all be doing a bit more than FT, the winners always do well.

It has just crossed my mind that the GBBF would be a good place to hold our football beer bet!

Had a couple of pints of the 2005/6 winner Crouch Vale brewers gold the other night and its still a great beer.

In Ipswich there was a Greene King pub that sold excellent pints of IPA and Abbott. Walk half a mile and a non Greene King was selling undrinkable IPA.

Crouch Vale Brewers Gold is a real favourite of ours but a number of places that we could always rely on to get it have stopped stocking it because of the cost. Although the Fat Cat in Ipswich often has it and the pub that used to be called the Black Adder when Alan Brazil ran it but is now called something else (we still call it the Black Adder) has it from time to time too.

Currently in Lacock. Went to 2 Wadworth's pubs yesterday, avoided 6X ( as I drank a lot of it when I lived down here), had Amarillo and Horizon, not bad at all, The Red Lion is an excellent pub.

Now called the Thomas Wolsey. Remember AB as landlord of the Black Adder!
