The Bon Accord between the city centre and west end has long been the favourite of Glasgow beer lovers. Less than scenic setting above the M8 motorway though.

Working from there towards the city centre, The State has great beer and the Griffin is a local institution. My knowledge of these places and their proximity to the Dental Hospital is not coincidental.

Haven't drank in the city centre much of late but if you can tolerate a 'spoons, the Counting House on George Square is a fine building. Also worth it for the classic interior is the Horseshoe Bar, no idea on beers there these days. My favourite just east in the Merchant city is Babbity Bowster.

If you venture south of the river the Laurieston is another traditional interior, but with the benefit of serving Fyne Ales, one of Scotland's best breweries IMO. Pick of the west end is the Three Judges.

Hope that helps!

I thought I read The Horseshoe had closed, very good it was too when I last went, which is ages ago.

Rant incoming.

NEVER EVER go to a Wethersoon for any reason, the owner of that chain is a total brexit lying bastard and wants to do nothing but close order pubs.

Rant over.

Horseshoe is advertising activities for the August Bank Holiday (despite it being an English holiday!) and Rugby World Cup so it looks open. Also advertises 4 cask ales on their website.

I had a three course 'business' lunch there. Tomato soup, pie, jelly and ice cream.

A Glasgow classic, the ultra cheap and entirely unhealthy 'business lunch's.

We managed ok in the end thanks. The recommendations came a little too late unfortunately (it was a last minute post lacking any prior foresight from me) as we were there last weekend - but all noted for anticipated future visits. Thanks!

There was frankly just too much choice to make informed decisions at short notice and it ended in a couple of quick 'Spoons visits (The Counting House & The Crystal Palace) being both reasonable in the end with a couple of new beers on for me, and an unfortunately v.quick drop in at Bon Accord which definitely will be revisited at a later date. That is definitely my sort of establishment.

I've done well for local ales this week having passed through Perth, Stirling, Inverness and Nairn during the week. Although to be fair, I've been hitting the malts in Nairn as the real ale has been limited 😁

It's onto Aberdeen tomorrow for our last night before heading back south on Saturday.

Although should anyone be able to suggest any Aberdeen watering holes.... 😉

You've been in virtually all my favourite Scottish drinking locations then Weath. I live close to Nairn and never lack for beer options at the Bandstand, but whisky is equally acceptable.

Prince of Wales is the favoured haunt of my Aberdonian friends, always a good beer selection. Down a small lane off Union St close to the city centre.

We found ourselves in The Bandstand a couple of times and had just left there when I posted last night. Nice selection of well kept beers on both occasions (from Cromerty, Windswept, Kelburn and Orkney and also a decent offering from Elgoods)

The Havelock next door was disappointing however. Two pints of vinegar didn't see us hanging around - supposedly Tim Taylor's Landlord and Green Lady by MÃēr Beers.

Thanks for the heads-up on PoW. That'll be a definite tourist visit later 😉.
