People definitely have more of a sweet tooth now which I think is why we see more of the American styles, very hoppy and fruity. Not that this variety is a bad thing just when you do see a traditional Old or Mild it’s good to enjoy it.

I went to a comedy gig on Sunday and was very surprised to be able to have a Crouch Vale Blackwater Mild. The venue always has real ale but mostly Golden styles so this was a real treat.

Called in at the local brewery bar at the weekend - Firerock Brewing Co. - and had a rather nice chocolate and coconut stout ('Kill the Ghosts' 4.8%) where the taste combination was nicely balanced and worked rather well.

The Firerock output, both cask and keg, has impressed me on the few times I've called in, which has been rare having stopped drinking apart from holidays away or special occasions. I don't miss the ale as much as thought I would but do enjoy it when I come across a good one such as this 🍺.

I did try Adnams Old on one of their brewery tours a couple of years ago. I must get a bottle or two as I can't remember what I thought of it.

I will have to call in at The Greyhound some time before Christmas as I imagine it will be on there (possibly along with Tally Ho)

I enjoyed a lovely pint of Harvey's Old in Brighton last night, prior to our game against Marseille.

Slipped down nicely :)

4 new venues last night, in that there trendy Norther Quarter in Manchester. Two brewery taps, Track and Sureshot, the second was nice and cosy, the first a bit impersonal, but both had very good beer. Two trendy bars where me an my mates were at least as twice as old as everyone else, then a visit to an old favourite, lastly what was billed as a traditional boozer, it was, but still full of twent and thirty somethings, bloody hell I am old!
