It seems to me that the person will have been penalised by Chess.com, so it's only really affected them. I was on the point of listing all the people I've played against, but trying to track someone down feels a bit uncomfortable. They know who they are, and hopefully they won't do it again. That's my view.

Still trying to work out what's been done and how it was spotted when the app struggles to determine a good from a bad move a lot of times.

That’s my point before. I know we all think that using engines is wrong, but it must be easy for some to feel under pressure on results/ratings to get sucked in more & more. I’m not convinced that a chess.com life ban is not over harsh rather than a ‘do that one more time & your out’ message. |

I've had that email a couple of times before (but not today). I'm not sure what chess.com does to the 'guilty' party - does it confiscate a load of rating points, or suspend/ban them?

Probably depends if they've paid a subscription and how many times they've done it.

chess.com and lichess take this stuff very seriously. I can say how accurate they are but I'd say subscription status doesn't really come into it.

I think it’s a life ban as people I know on there have just got a ‘closed for fair play’ message & all their current games default. The chess.com detection system is a can of worms, but they have sophisticated detection methods as it has to be justified up to people suing them in extreme cases. I’ve had a couple online opponents banned who definitely weren’t cheating against me as they lost & seemed like good guys. |

I've found who it is from looking at the completed games of some of the people affected. They've played with 96% or more accuracy for the past 3 weeks in almost every game after being closer to 50% a few times prior to that. They could have been making the effort to learn all the theory around one opening though? |
