Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Good points, Jules. I saw the check, but that it was immediately solved by black taking the rook meant I failed to think through any follow-up. Keep asking those questions of subsequent positions is what I need to take from that! :-)

Not sure I would have followed up on loosing a rook on a nice open board either Goofee.

Thanks for the game just now, seems I managed a mostly accurate game for a change.

If you’ve already lost a rook then why not chuck another one onto the fire?

Yes, well played, simbil, I felt overwhelmed almost from the start of that one!

Mate in 7... good luck in finding this one. (I played the rook check which is mate in 8 if played correctly)

Might be worth adding these in the link I posted yesterday so the solution is available for all.

Pothunter, I can't get any link to work at the moment (issue is my IT skills) but it's Rook to c1 check, Bishop takes Rook on c1, Rook takes Bishop on c1 check, Bishop to c4, Rook takes Bishop on c4 check, Queen takes Rook on c4, Queen to c8 checkmate

I missed a quicker mate against Weath but as long as I’m playing clearly winning moves I don’t care too much about perfect. In Goofee’s position I saw the mate as it was prompted, but over the board I’d more likely have gone for Qxa7 swapping off queens and pieces for an easy win.

In Goofee’s one, what happens if black plays Kd2 in response to the first check?
