Mine is a Cali 5.1 and they all have the 2.0TDi engine, they came in 140BHP or 180BHP variants. Of the two, the 140 is more desirable as the engines are much more reliable - the 180 has big issues with the EGR valve and turbo, I regularly read about them drinking oil and having expensive engine rebuilds. I have the 140 (fortunately) and it's been very reliable, the Cali is a heavy vehicle (2.5 tonne) and it pulls it along OK, it can struggle holding sixth gear on motorways if you're going into a headwind, but generally it's OK to cruise at 80.

Until recently I also had an Audi A3 2.0TDi

Sorry - essentially the same lump. Stock power was 170BHP but I had it mapped to 205 with no reliablility issues whatsover, low down torque and fuel economy was good. It ate front tyres though :-)

The 102 engines can be safely mapped to about 130BHP with no negative effects. What was your map Mandy?

To be honest, when you get much above 70, the wind noise from and around the roof and the odd rattles from stuff stowed inside make it less relaxing too.

Ours was remapped to 150 which was suggested, others have them done more bit we didn't want to.

Before it used to slug up Jubilee Way (from Dover docks) no it breezes up there no issue.

We have driven fro Dover to Lake District, and also.donw to Annecy in France and its a dream to drive

Doesn't remapping have insurance implications though?

Not like I'll be looking to drive fast in a campervan. I'm more thinking some of the hills in the Highlands may need a bit of poke to get up.

The only insurance implication is that you need to tell them. As far as I know.

Has anyone got any experience of the auto sleeper style vans ? We might have the potential to get our hands on one at “mates rates” from one of my parents neighbours who sadly passed away from COVID ... I know not a “Cool” VW transporter but for us it’s small enough to be kept on our drive and has the toilet / living arrangement we’ve always said was a priority ....
