Going through insurance now and it's so confusing! So previously, we've always stuck with A-Plan/Howden. First time we sat on a call and the guy just listed everything it has; pop-top, heater, alloys, etc. The price has jumped up massively, so trying to do it myself online and some of the questions are just very confusing and I have no way of knowing. |

Any tips, must sees, places to avoid please you knowledgeable lot It’s meant to be relatively quiet just now. Skye on the other hand is meant to be carnage. |

The west coast is absolutely stunning MM. Clachtoll and Achmelvich beaches particularly. Pie shop in Lochinver is worth a visit. Dornoch is a nice wee place to visit. I’d recommend a detour to the Black Isle - then I would because I live there

Clockwise v Anti is always the debate. I prefer anti-clockwise. The west is really nice, and when you travel North is just keeps getting better all the way up. Then when a bit fatigued, the East can be done at a quicker pace with less active stops. My list of must-sees would be; Attadale gardens Walled garden cafe in Applecross Victoria falls Gairloch beach and harbour Inverewe gardens Corrieshalloch Gorge Seafood Shack in Ullapool Lochinver pies Clachtoll Handa Island Balnakeil beach at Durness Cocoa mountain Smoo cave Golden Eagle Zip Line Moine house Chanonry point for dolphin spotting |

Make sure you know how to drive single track roads and use passing places appropriately. Make use of local businesses and be mindful of local communities. There’s mixed feelings up there about NC500 but as long as you are respectful you’ll be grand.

I'd agree with that HP, however there are areas with little to no local businesses. The Spar in Durness for example has its shelves emptied daily, leaving nothing for the locals. I'd definitely pack some provisions and not assume you will get everything on the move, but then use local businesses when possible. Good butcher and pie shop in Lochinver. Nice breakfast rolls in Clachtoll. |

Thank you so much. We always try and use local businesses. OH is used to single lane driving, used to look after pumping stations in the middle of no where and it was his bug bear that people didn't know how to drive/reverse/use lay bys etc Am getting very excited about this trip so will no doubt be let's of questions. Map is on the way 😄 |

I’d like to do the NC500 some day - will be interested to hear how you find it.

Four times last week the road to Glen Brittle was closed because folk were parking in passing places.
