If you’d told me 30 years ago that I’d be even half-considering a caravan at some point in my life I think I’d have had to kill you. Or me. Maybe both.... ![]() |

Angus, why don't you hire one and see how you get on? We tried to park in Booths in Keswick in a hired (big) motorhome and that was enough, never again. We bought the VW.

We did sort of talk about that today, as we drove up the glen. I’ll look and see what’s about.

I’ve driven all sorts of vehicles over the years. 4-tonners, pantechs, horse boxes etc and I’ve trailed a lot of different sizes of trailers over a lot of Terrains. Which sounds a wee bit boastful, but it’s not meant to be. When it comes down to it these days, I don’t want to be limited in carparks etc. Which is why, deep-down, I think a VW (or similar-sized van) is the answer. And I think if we want to be Truly Comfortable we’ll rent a house with a pool. ![]() |

Hubby would like a motorhome, I like the VW. My reason is the VW is my daily drive it gets used, with a motorhome we would need another vehicle and the motorhome would sit on the drive for a lot of the time not being used. Sarahwoo went from a caravan to a motorhome last year and they love their Moho and use it a lot.. |

Motorhome’s are more difficult when you’re in towns in particular because of their size (although there are some very dinky ones out there). The biggest advantage for me over a campervan is that they have a loo and a shower so you’re completely independent. Also, if the weather is rubbish, there’s loads of room inside to sit, eat, etc.

Angus - there is also a very good app which tells you which car parks can be used by motorhomes which has helped a lot.

We had an old type VW Campervan for a number of years, even brought it out to Spain when we moved here. But she couldn't really cope long term with the mountain roads and tracks so we sold it to RotS's son who still has it. They are lovely, and we had our honeymoon in ours driving through Spain. I don't know what it is about them but VW Campers are quite special, people always smile and wave or flash their lights. Anyway, I saw this a couple of days ago... sent me daydreaming about ours again. m.facebook.com |

We have the VW T4 but may move to a proper motorhome later. Find the whole VW scene strange and obsessive so I'm not a VW scene man and only got the T4 as parts are available. To be honest my Renault Traffic double cab was a better drive. |
