Merlin spotted today while I was driving. Very slim, and very mobile bolt

Fragile Do Not Bend
My bird song question from a couple of pages back - they are definitely chaffinchs as I've caught one in the act.

For some reason the chaffinchs here have a simpler song than the ones I've listened to on the internet, without the twiddley bits (I'm sure there is a technical term for it).

It looks like the Little Egret we saw a few weeks ago around our usual dog walk has stayed. I saw one (I'm assuming it's the same one) last night near the stream that runs through the fields.
A very red make Bullfinch seen earlier, a couple of nuthatch and 2 Robins fighting on the floor.

Little egret are spreading like wildfire. Good news with so many species struggling

I was in Scotland Mon and Tues, but very little was seen from the car through the rain :-(

Goldfinches are back again, feeding quite happily. Had a pied wagtail yesterday, but my main delight is seeing a wren in the garden. See them quite regularly on walks and runs, but an absolute first in the garden. Oh, it's just come back for a third visit as I'm typing.

Chaffinches have two versions of their song - the full length with twiddly bits, and also an abbreviated one which is just the first bit, shorter and simpler. They also have a call - a strong CHEEP note similar to a house sparrow but just a single cheep rather than a repeated one like a sparrow would.

We had CHEEP in the back garden this morning :-)
