..and I've just filled the feeders before work and had a telling off from the blackbird for disturbing him! I'm beginning to think I'm merely a visitor

Been watchin a wren flitting about the garden this morning. I dont often get a close up view of wrens but they have lovely markings that a brief glimpse doesn't reveal.

My robin chatters to me while I'm doing the feeding, reminding me to do everything properly and passing on complaints from the hedgehog when I'm late getting its food out in the evening.

D2 the GND at Carsington is a regular winter resident. Usually arrives around beginning of November and stays over the winter. If you go in the Wildlife Centre they have quite a bit of information about it. It moves around the whole reservoir but the Millfields end off the dam or Stones Island is often a good place to look. Worth looking here for where it's been spotted carsingtonbirdclub.co.uk

Male Sparrow Hawk today at the same time as a Goldcrest enjoying fat from the fat balls. Two Coal Tits. Starlings...NIL here bonners! Very rare in my garden.

Seems to be the year of the Goldcrest - seen more this year already than other year all-told. It must be something about Cambridge robins Glenn. My pair supervise me filling it, and shout at me if it's empty (i.e. been raided by gannets masquerading as starlings). No hedgehogs though, only big and little ratty hoovering up anything spilt on the floor. |

Hoovering up off the floor? We should be lucky. Our rats climb onto the birdfeeder and hang off it in midair!!!

Placed windfall apples out before our run. Hour later blackbirds devoured 3/4 of them. I was a bit miffed when Fizz stored loads of apples in the potting shed. Not now though. |

Our latest rat is cleaning up the ground feeder, unfortunately for him my father in law may be making another appearance with the air rifle
