Saw my first coot babies at the local park lake this weekend. They're so intrepid! Another pair of coots at the lake are still building their nest and a third pair are sat waiting on theirs.

There was a pair of stonechat on the fence at Murvagh beach this evening. I tried to stand and watch them, but a couple of toddlers were making their way up from the car park. They had their wellies on and there was paddling to be done so they were in no mood to slow down on their way to the sea. :) The two birds quickly took themselves off to a quieter spot.

I saw my first house martins of the year on Sunday. No swallows yet, though, and certainly no swifts. Still bloody freezing, not great weather for insectivorous birds.

I'm doing a dawn chorus walk on Sunday. I've not given up on a waxwing yet :-)

Meanwhile a(n) (early?) heat wave in Spain. I'm no expert, but wonder what impact that will have on migration patterns.

It is still so cold here. Daily night frosts, hail, sleet, temperatures around 6 degrees in the day.
