I heard a cuckoo in Windsor Great Park this morning. I don’t ordinarily hear them here and it seems quite early. Do they always head to the same spot or perhaps chance their arm with finding a mate on the way to somewhere familiar?

Regular visitors to my garden are Nuthatch and Green Woodpecker, both of which I usually hear way before I see them. With buzzards often calling overhead as they launch from the trees on the nearby hill, it really is a pleasure to sit and listen.

My 8 mile run yesterday was largely away from any traffic. I spent most of the run trying to pick different bird song whether I knew the birds or not. I’m finding it’s a great way to spend an easy run.

Almost all the usual warblers on my run today - Willow and Chiff, Blackcap, Reed, Sedge, Cetti's. Just waiting for the Whitethroats and Gropper. Still no hirundines though.

Skylark this morning on a campsite. A first for me. Seen and heard flying over the freshly cut field. Beautiful and very distinctive song.
