Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Sounds fabulous FF. I loved seeing the nightjar on Springwatch this year. What a fascinating bird.

There are a couple of possible nightjar sites relatively close to here but I’ve never been. That sounds a brilliant evening ff

That sounds great, ff! The churring of a nightjar is such a weird sound, I think. Hard to think of it as a bird sound.

Really excellent evening. I've never heard (knowingly) never mind seen nightjar before. Walk was organised by Natural England who run the reserve and was very low key (and free) but highly informative. The local expert and ringer was a mine of information. I loved the bit about them having a comb on the base of their third toe that they use to clean the whiskers around their mouths which are so important in the way they hoover up moths 😀

On my recent French holiday, I fell asleep one night to the sound of a nightjar. We had the window open in the apartment and there was one churring away in the scrub some distance away.

I think this was asked before but ages ago so I can’t find it.

Can anyone recommend an online supplier of bird seed/peanuts that sells it in large sacks? I’ve been using the RSPB shop until now but they’ve had a problem with their website not taking payments for ages now and I gave up hanging on the phone for someone to pick up.

YP uses Happy Beaks iirc for the birds in our garden. They do sacks of up to around 25kg I believe.

- Love Garden Birds
- Maltbys (via Amazon)
- Charlies
- Robert Dyas

- In shop : In-Excess (probably local-ish to So'ton/Salisbury/Bournemouth triangle)

The wildlife trusts have a partnership with a supplier (and I assume they've selected an appropriately ethical one) and they get a % of any purchase you make.

Thanks I’ll take a look at those, especially flanker’s suggestion.
