Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

We call tnhem chimney beetles as every year some ended up coming down the chimney and rattling around the fireguard making a din until you let them out. Not sure what happens to them now we have a Chimney Sheep in place.

Watching a dozen or so house martins flying around the sycamore the other side of my garden fence :)

I suspect if you remove the chimney sheep you will find several generations of deceased bugs

I spotted a juvenile black and white bird the other day, had me really puzzled trying to identify it until I found this.

Very sad to see a deceased sparrow in the garden today. No obvious sign of disease or predation, although I have seen a crow around. I’ve cleaned all the feeders as a precaution.

Happily I just counted 7 others lined up on the fence.

Well that was exciting! Mr S took me to see the kestrel nest that he found last weekend and the chicks were clearly visible and looking like they might fledge soon.

Image taken using a 300mm lens with 1.5 teleconverter - so we were a very respectable distance away on a path looking down over the trees.

We did get rather wet and didn't stay long.
