Juvenile Siskin coming to my feeder. Siskin are an occasional winter visitor to the feeder and I never normally spot them round here in summer. The youngster turned up last week with the Greenfinches and I only caught a brief view. Decided afterwards I was seeing things and dismissed it. But yesterday it was back and I got a good look. Definitely a young Siskin.

Interestingly the Siskin arrived shortly after a Jay which I also think was a juvenile. Unusual too to see them on the feeder, particularly at this time of year. They usually only appear when food is in really short supply.

We used to see loads of siskin on the feeders in the garden at the cottage at Cockley Beck. Jay really isn’t a bird you’d expect on a bird feeder

We saw a family of 3 nuthatches in the park in Keswick yesterday.

And a group of 4 buzzards calling to each other near Latrigg.

No young siskin in my garden yet, but I am expecting young GS woodpeckers on the peanuts soon.

Our two wood pigeon babies can’t be far from fledging. They’re so big they’re nearly falling out of the nest.

And this morning the bairn decided to name them - Banana Coming Down The Stairs and Keith The Pigeon !!

My whooper has now moved along to the Hebble End coffee shop where it's being fed alongside the ducks and geese and is getting really quite accustomed to humans. I wonder if it will be able to rewind itself when all its friends return from their Summer holidays?

I was delighted earlier today to get my first sighting of young Woody that M&D have been fetching food for recently. Not yet ready to come to the feeder Woody Junior sat on the ridge of the house opposite and Mum went back and forth. Even got some nice shots I think on my camera. Then went out for 9 hours. Just returned home to find Junior dead in front of my house. Having, I think, flown into the windows (my house has a lot of glass at the front facing the feeders).

Unfortunately this isn't the first (or 2nd) time this has happened with young GSW 😕

Sad news ff

A squeaky oystercatcher high over the house this evening. It’s not uncommon to hear them, curlew and the occasional cuckoo from the house but this seems to have been a poor year

We have fledglings :) The sparrow nursery has started up in earnest, a baby robin has been hopping around and there are also two baby squirrels following their mum around.
