Green woodpeckers are certainly exotic, exciting looking birds. I got a great view of one today, not far off, as I was out on a run.

Today's highlight was finding the Snow Bunting that has been reported on the dam for the last couple of days. It is being very obliging, keeping to a few hundred yards of the dam and making itself very visible. There are some fantastic photos appearing on the local birding fb pages. I understand it to be only the second record for the site and it's definitely a first for me.

My highlight for today was seeing a great spotted woodpecker return to my bird feeder this morning.

I know what you mean about exotic J2R. I feel the same about nuthatches. There's a Facebook page attached to the cemetery nature reserve. A while back some people posted excitedly about a "green escaped parrot or parakeet". Someone else weighed in with a ring-necked parakeet suggestion. I realised they were probably talking about green woodpeckers, so I posted a full description and a pic. It was the first sighting for some of the posters and they were very surprised that the UK had such an exotic winged resident. |

Absolutely. Have seen jays in the local wood quite frequently but surprisingly one came to my garden bird feeder recently which was brilliant!
