Good to know DT, thanks. Still scanning the skies here every morning.

The skies are empty here. The odd starling about carrying food, and currently seeing about one swallow or house martin per day. In fairness where we are now is sadly not very swifty but I’m not seeing them even in usual areas

Our house martins came home last night They spent the evening and morning swooping out from under the eaves, doing a circuit of the air between our front garden and the river/canal and swooping back in again, presumably checking that their Summer House and garden was still as they'd left them last year. I hope they're well tucked up away from the horizontal hail that we're currently being treated to! I'm so looking forward to waking to the sound of squeaking and twittering as they go about their lives just above our bedroom window. It sounds bonkers but I feel so honoured that these tiny birds fly all the way from Africa to raise their babies only a few feet from where we sleep |

That must be lovely having house martins next in your roof. No swifts here yet. That map is pretty shocking. Could it be to do with the easterly and northerly winds we've been having? Back to more standard south westerly directions now, will that help? Although it is also bringing some pretty dire weather. |

Fab news Kinky I have been for a "cuckoo" walk, no sign Two green woodpeckers though, think male and female, as well as all the usual suspects and... Drumroll... Swallows! Yup, plural! |

Just seen the first swift of the year - we’re not at home though, North Norfolk, straight after a substantial storm.

Ooh, North Norfolk! Means I might get to see them very soon in Norwich. I actually thought I'd glimpsed one yesterday when out on a run. I stopped and hung around for a while but didn't see it again, so I thought I must have been mistaken. KinkyS, so wonderful to have your own house martins! |

Fragile Do Not Bend
I’m very, very gradually learning to identify more bird songs A few days ago I successfully identified some whitethroats whilst on a walk, today I was pleased that I recognised the same song whilst I was in the garden. I even managed to see it as confirmation. It’s a new species for my garden list - I’m sure they’ve been in my garden before but it’s the first time I’ve been able to identify it. |
