Fragile Do Not Bend
Walking on the downs above Dover yesterday, I spotted a bird I didn’t recognise - small nondescript brown bird with a sort of greenfinch-shaped beak. I didn’t have a camera (other than my phone) but it was singing loud enough for me to record it on my phone. A lot of googling and I finally found what it was - a Corn Bunting. A new one for me

Corn bunting and dippers - nice work
I bumped into a guy with binoculars on my regular lunchtime dog walk. He’s a regular contributor to the Bradford Birders blog and a real nice bloke. Sadly I had to keep moving but we had a few minutes chat about the local scene

Great set of photos um, I didn't have too much opportunity to stop and look more when I was there on Saturday. Such cute little ducklings and you managed to spot a deer.

Wet here, but been watching the little wren rummage around in the honeysuckle outside the window and everything is singing outside, loudly!

Fragile, yes, corn bunting is a good spot. Jangling keys song is an aid to identification. A few years ago in Bulgaria there was a bird I thought was a C B but wasn't sure, so I played the song from a mobile app, confirming it was, and the bird came over to investigate who his rival was. I never do that deliberately now, though, as it confuses them. Interesting, anyway.

Also, my ringtone is the iconic blackbird song. Not ideal for someone who spends most of their time outside! I often don't realise it is my phone ringing. Goshawk call maybe better. I used to use that for the now ex bf...

Yet another bird has now started going for the sunflower hearts! One of our dunnocks, nesting in the nearby hedge, has now mastered the art of perching briefly and snatching a sunflower heart from the feeder. That's an incredible range now.
