Do magpies roost together? I never really thought they did, but being corvids, I don't see why not. I ask because I just saw a group of about 30 of them just now while I was out on a dusk run, with others flying to join them.
More bats along the woodland edges, and a great sight, a sparrowhawk barrelling along between the hedges in front of me.

Never really thought about it but I would suspect so given their general behaviour patterns.

We’ve had a yellow wagtail turn up every day for the last couple of months. Pretty sure it’s a yellow not a grey after much research. OH Claim’s to have seen his mate though I don’t think I have. He only seems to hang around the pond picking up whatever he finds & never goes to the feeders. Any ideas of what we could feed him or is it best to just let him get on with it?

If it is a yellow wag it’ll be off south on migration very soon

If someone has mentioned a mate I'd think it was a Grey Wagtail. Not likely to have two Yellows hanging about during September..and now it's pretty late for a Yellow. ID by call....a Yellow only gives a single "tsweep" in flight.

CD - yellow is small, size of pied wag or smaller. Quite dainty. Grey is bigger and much more ‘robust looking’

Delighted to see a dipper yesterday on my walk along the river right in the centre of town. I've never seen one on that stretch before.
Nice to see robin, chaffinch, coal and blue tits visiting the garden feeders regularly now. Jackdaws like the fastballs but aren't as ravenous as when they have young to feed.

OK, I've always said I'm not a twitcher, the sort of person who drops everything and rushes off to see a bird to get the 'tick'. But...There's an obliging hoopoe that's been hanging around at a location 35 miles away for a little while now, and it's a nice area, and I COULD just be going there for other reasons, and...
Should I go?

Is it still there? (assuming it's the one near me that people were talking about last week)

I originally thought it was a grey DT. BiL was sure it’s a yellow so I tried to check against everything I could find online and came to the conclusion it was probably a yellow (despite the annoyance of having to admit BiL might be right). I’ll try to get another look...
