Thanks DT - *tick* :-) :-) :-) She says it 'goes off' at the same time every early evening :-)

We're going for an early walk over to some different woods either tomorrow or the day after and hopefully we'll get to hear one there...... *fingers crossed*

Frag - could be yellowhammer? “A little bit of bread and no cheeeeeeese”?

Boy twin and his GF saw a little grebe on a nearby lake yesterday, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a little grebe so OH and I are off for a walk shortly.

No cuckoos heard here this year, but then i haven’t been to any of the places where i would usually hear them - Wimpole, Sandy, Fen Drayton lakes.....

They’re all here Rosehip. I’ve heard six this year and none further than about three miles from home

Fragile Do Not Bend
Hmm, yellowhammer sounds similar but not quite right. The recordings I’ve just listened to have much less of a pause and the last note goes down instead of up. Unless there are variations in yellowhammer songs?

Yellowhammer songs do vary, Fragile. My money is on one of them. I've heard a rising note quite often. Can't think what else it might be. Heard a few yellowhammers on yesterday afternoon's country jaunt.

Fragile Do Not Bend
Thanks, maybe a regional thing? I’ve heard lots recently and I keep meaning to check what it is. It’s a song that has got into my subconscious and been associated with warm sunny days. :)

I’ve sure the willow warbler sing differently here to Wharfedale, less than ten miles away

I got my binoculars (Bushnell 8x42) out on the weekend for the first time in ages. The hard plastic bits on the prism housings have got a bit sticky. It’s almost like the plastic is degrading.

I have had them for 25 years but they are otherwise fine. I’ve tried to contact Bushnell customer services but no luck yet.

Any ideas? Anything I can rub on to protect them (and my hands!) further?

Just had a lovely walk round our little lake - not only saw the little grebe but a pair of goldeneye as well :-)
